The Janette Kennedy Gallery presents PULSE., a solo exhibition by Darin L. Triplett. To check the pulse of a situation is to pause and assess its vitality, its tempo, and its emotional truth. In the selected works from The Passion Project, this concept takes visual form. These portraits are not merely depictions of their subjects, they are diagnostic tools of human emotion, capturing fleeting expressions and internal narratives. Each grayscale figure contrasts sharply with the vivid backgrounds, serving as a reminder that beneath the static surface, there is rhythm, life, and urgency.

In this series, “checking the pulse” becomes both a metaphor and a method. The portraits invite us to look closely, to observe how identity, connection, and emotion coexist and clash. They demand attention to nuance—the tension in a jawline, the softness in an eye—prompting viewers to gauge not just the subjects’ states of being, but their own. Through this interplay of grayscale and vibrancy, the works hold a mirror to the ways we perceive and respond to the complexities of others, asking: What does this moment feel like? And what is our role within it?

These works explore more than just the individual; they are a collective heartbeat, a call to remain attuned to humanity in its boldest and most intimate expressions.
